Progressive Roadside Assistance

Progressive Roadside Assistance/Austin Insurance Group #1 Progressive Authorized Agent

24/7 Roadside Assistance

Progressive Roadside Assistance 24/7 is an extra coverage you can add to your policy. Examples of services provided include towing, winching, jump-starts, fuel delivery, vehicle lockout, and flat tire. Roadside assistance is available for auto insurance policies as well as motorcycles, RVs, and commercial vehicles.

What does roadside assistance cover?

Roadside assistance covers the same events whether you drive a car, motorcycle, RV, boat or a commercial vehicle. However, there are some unique aspects for each type. Whether you’re in your own driveway or on the road, you can get help if your vehicle has stopped running due to non-accident-related events (e.g., electrical or mechanical breakdown).

  • Vehicle towing: We can arrange to tow your vehicle anywhere within a 15-mile radius. If there isn’t a repair shop within 15 miles, we will tow it to the nearest qualified repair shop. If you choose to have your vehicle towed to a shop that isn’t the closest one, you will need to pay for the extra mileage. Keep in mind, you’re responsible for the cost of any parts and/or repairs made to your vehicle.
  • Winching service: If your car is trapped in mud, water, snow, or sand (within 100 feet of a road or highway), we’ll pull your car out with a motor-powered cable or chain.
  • Battery jump-start: We will jump-start it at the scene to help get you on your way.
  • Fuel delivery: If you run out of gas, we’ll deliver fuel directly to your vehicle. The delivery and service is free. You only pay for the cost of the fuel.
  • Battery charge for electric cars: If you run out of charge, we can arrange to tow your vehicle anywhere within a 15-mile radius, or to the nearest qualified charging facility if there isn’t one within 15 miles. You will only pay for the cost of the charge.
  • Locksmith service: If your keys are stole, lost or accidentally locked inside your vehicle, we dispatch a qualified service provider. You’re only responsible for keys and/or the costs to replace them.
  • Flat tire change: No need to panic if you have a flat. A roadside professional can put the spare tire on your vehicle at the scene for no cost as long as you provide a spare.
  • On-scene labor: We provide up to one hour of labor if your car is disabled. If you need more than an hour, you can simply choose to pay for any extra costs or have your vehicle towed to the nearest qualified repair shop.

Note: There may be a limit to the number of roadside events your policy covers. Additionally, in some states, such as Virginia and North Carolina, Roadside Assistance coverage is subject to limits stated on your policy.

Some services described below are only available to customers who purchased coverages such as Coillision, Comprehension, Rental Reimbursement, Medical Payments, etc., before their loss. Coverage is subject to the terms of your policy. Please refer to your policy to verify which coverages you have.

Motorcycle Roadside Assistance

In addition to roadside assistance for your motorcycle, Roadside coverage extends to any vehicle used for towing/hauling your motorcycle, even if it’s not insured by us.

Boat Roadside Assistance

Boat Roadside coverage also extends to any vehicle towing your boat, even if it’s not insured by Progressive, as long as the trailer is listed on your policy, too.

Please note that this coverage does not apply on the water. Progressive offers a separate coverage for on-water towing called Sign & Glide®. This pays for on-water towing, jump-starts, soft ungroundings, and fuel delivery.**Read the associated disclosure for this claim.

RV Roadside Assistance

Along with roadside assistance for your RV, your coverage also extends to any vehicle being used to tow/haul your travel trailer, camper, fifth wheel, etc. even if it’s not insured by us.

Trip Interruption coverage for motorcycle and boat

You can add Trip Interruption to pay for food, lodging, and transportation expenses up to $500 if your motorcycle breaks down more than 100 miles from home. For boats, Trip Interruption applies if the trailer carrying your boat, or the vehicle towing your boat trailer, breaks down more than 100 miles from home. This is especially helpful if you break down over the weekend and the local repair shops don’t open until Monday. You must have roadside assistance to be able to buy trip interruption.

Heavy Truck Roadside Assistance

Heavy Truck Roadside Assistance can help you get back on the road and back to business. Call 877-776-2436 to add Heavy Truck Roadside Assistance to your commercial policy.

How to add Roadside or extra coverages

Just log in to your policy online or call 1-800-776-4737 and you can add these coverages, though coverage may not be effective the same day.

Most insurance companies will not insure you on a personal insurance policy when you are using your vehicle for commercial purposes, especially “for hire” when you are carrying other passengers for money. And even though your rideshare program, like Uber or Lyft covers you when you have passengers, your personal insurance carrier may not cover you at all, and when they discover you are part of a Rideshare program, they may drop you.

SR22 Insurance Fraud, can I keep Car insurance with my current agent?

SR22 insurance fraud, can I keep Car insurance with my current agent?

We get that question all the time.  Someone will call and ask for an SR22.  But they want to keep their car insurance with their current company.  Is that SR22 Insurance Fraud?

Get a Quote today - SR22 Insurance Fraud

Here is what you need to know:

  • An SR22 is a “certificate of financial responsibility”  that is filed by your insurance company confirming that you have the minimum liability limits in your state.
  • In order to get an SR22, you must purchase minimum liability from the insurance company.
  • It may not be illegal to take out two insurance policies on the same car but which policy will pay in the event of a claim?   Making two claims with two different insurance companies for the same accident may be considered insurance fraud. Is it worth the risk?
  • If you own a vehicle, you can not purchase “non-owners” insurance. If your attorney or agent are suggesting that, find another agent.
  • Having full coverage with one company and then getting an SR22 filing with another company, could put you and your vehicle at risk.  One policy may cancel out the other.  And if you have full coverage, that’s not the policy you want canceled if your car has been involved in an accident.
  • Insurance companies generally have policies discouraging the practice of double insuring a vehicle
  • It’s best to find an insurance policy that will affordably insure you and your vehicle with the SR22 filing.

It’s called Double-Dipping – SR22 Insurance Fraud

The primary reason most states and insurance companies disapprove of multiple car insurance policies on one car is because of double-dipping.

In the insurance world, double-dipping is called unjust enrichment. This occurs when you get into a car accident and file claims with both of your insurance companies in an attempt to give yourself a financial windfall. Whether you mean to or not.  If you are involved in an accident, which proof of Insurance are you going to provide.  The one that DPS has on file showing your SR22, or the other one that shows you have full-coverage.

If both of your car insurance claims are approved, you or the claimants might get twice the money for the accident than you would normally receive.

Once you have the checks, and you decide to repair your vehicle with the first settlement and keep the second for your own financial gain. This is absolutely illegal and constitutes insurance fraud. You may even be charged with a felony.

Don’t risk it. If you are still not sure what an SR22 is, please call our office and one of our agent ‘s will review the details with you.

Glossary of Common Insurance Terms – Glossary

Auto Insurance

The Texas Personal Auto Insurance Policy offers eight types of coverage. Each coverage only pays up to the dollar limit chosen for that coverage. Understanding insurance coverages, read more below.

Liability Coverage:  The current Texas state minimum for liability insurance is $30,000 per person / $60,000 per incident for bodily injury, along with $25,000 for property damage. This coverage pays for other people’s expenses for accidents caused by drivers that are covered under your policy.

Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist (UM/UIM) Coverage: UM/UIM pays your expenses when an accident is caused by an uninsured motorist or an underinsured motorist driver whose liability limits were insufficient to cover your bills. It also pays for damages caused by a hit-and-run driver in accidents that are reported promptly to the police.

Medical Payments Coverage:  Medical payments insurance covers the cost of doctors, hospitals and funeral expenses for you and/or your passengers that are a result from an accident, regardless of who was at fault.

What does PIP auto insurance cover?
This is an optional car insurance coverage that covers medical expenses and, in many cases, lost wages. It is often called “no-fault” coverage because it pays out claims to anyone in the covered vehicle, regardless of who is at fault in the accident.

Personal Injury Protection (PIP) Coverage: PIP is basically medical payments coverage plus coverage for lost income and the cost of hiring a caregiver for an injured person. PIP is automatically included in the Texas personal auto policy unless rejected in writing by the applicant.

What does PIP stand for?  Personal Injury Protection – A feature of automobile insurance that covers the health care expenses associated with treating injuries sustained in a car accident.

Collision (Damage to Your Car) Coverage: Collision coverage pays for damage to your own auto that results from having an accident with another vehicle or object, regardless of fault. Payment is limited to your car’s actual cash value, less your deductible. Actual cash value is the market value of a car like yours before it was damaged.

Comprehensive (Physical Damage Other than Collision) Coverage:  Comp coverage pays for damages that are caused by something other than a collision. This includes theft and vandalism, and disasters such as fire, flood, hail or hitting an animal. Like Collision, Comprehensive pays Actual cash value minus your deductible.

Towing and Labor Coverage:  Towing and Labor pays for towing charges when your auto can not be driven, plus it includes labor charges, like changing a tire, at the site of the disablement.

Rental Reimbursement Coverage:  Rental car coverage pays a set daily amount for a rental car if your car is stolen or is being repaired because of damage covered on your policy.

Homeowners Insurance

There are two basic types of homeowners insurance policies – “named peril” and “all risk” policies. Named peril policies, such as the HO-A Plus form, will only cover the perils that are specified in the policy.  All risk policies, such as the HO-3 form, will cover everything that is not specifically excluded in your policy. If you compare the inclusions in a named perils policy side-by-side with the exclusions in an open perils policy, you’ll find that the two types provide basically the same level of protection with the exception of options and endorsements.  Two important ones are foundation coverage and water backup.

Austin Insurance Group will quote companies who provide both types of policies, however, we highly recommend “all risk” policies.

Flood Insurance

Floods are not covered under any home insurance policy.  Flood insurance is written as a separate policy and FEMA regulates the premiums.   If your home is in a flood zone, you will need to provide an elevation certificate in order to provide a quote.  Most mortgage companies will require flood insurance for homes in a flood zone, and they often have elevation certificates on hand.   If your home is not in a flood zone, there is a flat pricing structure.

Umbrella Insurance

Umbrella insurance provides added liability coverage beyond the liability on your home and auto insurance policies, usually in increments of $1 million, $2 million or $5 million. Umbrella insurance policies are typically tied to an auto policy,  but we can also quote umbrella coverage for customers who need a stand alone policy. Most companies require $250,000/$500,000 auto liability limits and $300,000 in liability on your home policy as underlying limits.   When you are involved in a liability claim that exceeds the limits on your underlying (auto or home) policies, that’s when the umbrella kicks in and pays up to the limit chosen.

Where can I buy Uber car Insurance?

Where can I buy Uber car insurance?

Uber requires all of their drivers to have car insurance.  Even though they provide supplemental insurance coverage, they only provide coverage while their app is on. Buy Uber car insurance now.

Here’s how it works: When the Uber app is off, a driver is covered by their own personal car insurance. When the Uber app is turned on, a low level of liability insurance becomes active.

Austin Insurance Group provides insurance for Uber drivers along with other rideshare drivers for Lyft etc.  We provide this coverage through Progressive insurance and we require the following:

  • Pleasure Use-Including Rideshare (Uber, Lyft, etc.)
  • Policy bodily injury limits of at least $50,000 per person/$100,000 per accident and $25,000 for property damage
  • Snapshot enrollment is required

If your vehicle is not eligible for Snapshot, you will not be able to purchase this coverage through Progressive.

What is SR22 Insurance?

SR22 insurance is not auto insurance. Instead, it is proof of auto insurance. Also known as a Financial Responsibility Insurance Certificate that is filed with the DPS.

An SR22 filing provides official verification that a driver has a car insurance policy that meets the minimum liability insurance requirements of their state.

In Texas, the minimum liability insurance requirements are as follows:

  • $30,000 to cover bodily injury per person
  • $60,000 to cover bodily injuries or deaths of all
  • $25,000 to cover damages incurred to any property from an auto accident.

Other Information Related to SR-22

Who Needs SR22 Insurance in Texas

Drivers who are required to obtain an SR22 certificate must meet a court order to do so. The reasons a driver in Texas is ordered to get SR22 include:

    • DWI charges
    • DUI charges
    • Multiple speeding tickets.
    • Multiple moving violations that label the driver as a hazard to others on the roadways
    • Those who require an occupations license for one of the above offenses

In these situations, a convicted driver has been convicted of the violation and has had his or her driving privileges suspended, revoked or cancelled. If SR22 insurance is court-ordered, it must begin on the date of the conviction. SR22 coverage must be maintained for two years, or more if the court so requires.

How to Reinstate Driving Privileges with SR22

SR22 coverage gives drivers the right to drive again. By verifying you can be responsible to repair bills or pay medical bills of an accident you cause, the DPS will reinstate your driving privileges.

Follow the steps below to get your drivers license reinstated with insurance and an SR22 filing:

  1. Purchase auto insurance with an SR22 filing
  2. Bring your valid TX driver’s license to your local DPS office when the filing as been processed.
  3. Pay the reinstatement fee.
  4. The reinstatement fee is different for every driver, and is determined by the violation committed.

Lapses in SR22 Insurance Payments

Your auto insurance provider with your SR22 coverage will notify the Department of Public Safety when you driver have purchased an SR22. The monthly payments must be punctual. If at any point in time you do not pay your SR22 insurance promptly, your SR-22 insurance provider will notify the DPS immediately. Driving privileges will once again be suspended, and the term of your SR22 insurance will restart.

That means if you have been court-ordered to maintain SR22 insurance for 24 months, and you make a late payment in the eighteenth month, your SR22 term will start over the following month. You will then have to pay the SR22 insurance costs for another full two years.

How to Get SR22 Insurance

If you already have auto insurance, check first with your provider. Most major vehicle insurance companies offer SR22 insurance. In the event you need to look for SR22 insurance quotes elsewhere, contact Austin Insurance Group for a free quote.

If you need to get austin tx sr22 insurance and you do not have a car, ask about a non owner’s policy.  This is the cheapest option for individuals mandated to have and SR-22 but do not own a car.

Major factors that can impact insurance rates are:

  • High Accident Rates – Austin ranked 166th out of the 200 cities. Drivers in Austin are involved in crashes every 7.3 years, that’s 37.1 percent higher than the national average. The high frequency of car accidents is helping to raise the cost of car insurance in Austin.
  • Weather – Austin weather is humid subtropical with hot and humid summers and mild winters with cold nights. Austin is fairly dry, but it can receive a lot of rain in April and September, creating slick roads and long commutes. It’s not unusual for thunderstorms to produce hail, sometimes damaging. On a more positive note, it almost never freezes or snows here.
  • Road Conditions – Washington, DC non-profit transportation research group TRIP reports that Austin drivers waste as much as $706 a year on fuel, time, and car repairs due to the high number of potholes, ruts, and rough street conditions. According to Trip, 28% of the major roads here are in poor condition and in need of immediate repair and another 62% of local roads are rated mediocre.
  • Traffic Congestion – According to TomTom’s annual traffic index report, Austin is ranked as having the 21st worst traffic congestion in the United States. The average commuter spends an extra 30 minutes per hour and 115 hours a year stuck in traffic on peak hour commutes lasting 60 minutes.
  • Moving Violations – Like speeding tickets, accidents, failure to yield, or drunk driving can give you a bad driving record and make you a high risk driver.

Caveat Emptor – Buyer Beware: For a long time, the only way to compare insurance quotes from more than one major car insurance company was to make one phone call at a time.  Then came the internet and it was easy to input your data, but you still had to go to one site at a time and enter your private information.  Drivers and homeowners were stuck doing all the work to save money.  But now that’s all changing, according to EverQuote, InsuranceQuotes, QuoteWizard, Online Quoting and other online insurance quoting companies. These sites promise to do all the insurance shopping for you for free.Buyer Beware

Nothing is free. Do you really want more solicitation from the Internet?  Do you want to have your information shared online with someone who may not even be a licensed insurance agent?

Have you read the fine print on these sites?

EXAMPLE: By Clicking “Find Discounts & Check Rates” I Provide My Signature, Expressly Authorizing Telemarketing Calls From This Website, Our Marketing And Re-Marketing Partners, And Up To Eight Insurance Companies Or Their Agents Or Partner Companies At The Phone Number, Including Wireless Numbers, And Address Provided, In Order To Deliver Insurance Quotes Or To Obtain Additional Information For Such Purpose, Via Live, Pre-Recorded Or Auto-Dialed Calls, Text Messages, Or Email For Up To 180 Days. It’s time for you to say goodbye to Internet insurance quoting sites like EverQuote, QuoteWizard, and InsuranceQuotes to work with a local agent, Austin Insurance Group.  We can shop for you without sharing your private information because we are licensed agents for multiple insurance companies.  When you get a quote from us, we will be your agent.

HERE’S WHAT THEY SAY:

  • They say that the information you need to help you save can be found in one place.
  • They say you should compare quotes with their online insurance quoting site.
  • They say you should not consider buying car insurance without comparing quotes first because you may be overpaying for your car insurance or home insurance.
  • They say their services are free.
  • They say that they are not an insurer, but  a comparison shopping marketplace – and are providing customers what they want – lower quotes.
  • They say that car insurance agents make money from your premiums.
  • They say that the higher your premiums are, the more the insurance agent makes.
  • They say that the system makes it difficult to determine if you are getting a fair price.
  • They say that you are smart if you use their “free internet tools” to get an honest and fair quote.
  • They say that it’s really no wonder that with so many driver’s saving money, services like these are gaining momentum.
  • They say that they “try” to give consumers the lowest rates with tools you can trust.
  • They say just enter your zip code and some driver information to see quotes from top-rated car insurance companies and local agents.
  • They say you will put money in your pocket.

There is nothing wrong with this type of comparison shopping site like EverQuote.  But before you provide information about yourself and your family, know who is collecting it.  If you are okay with your information being sold to the highest bidder, then my job is done and you have been warned.

WHAT THEY DON”T TELL YOU:

  • They don’t tell you that all they want is your information.
  • They don’t tell you that these type of websites are all about leads, leads, leads.  Personal insurance leads.  Commercial insurance leads.  Life Insurance leads.
  • They don’t tell you that they are collecting your information to sell it to an insurance company or insurance agent who buy and pay for leads.
  • They don’t tell you that they sell your information more than once.
  • They don’t tell you that most insurance agents who purchase their leads, do not prioritize Internet leads because they’re perceived to have low value. So after giving up your information, you may still not find what you need.
  • They don’t tell you that the response time may be slow with little to no-followup if the person who purchased your lead doesn’t think you are a valuable client.
  • They don’t tell you that the person who buys your information doesn’t care about the relationship or your coverage, but instead they focus on nothing but price.
  • They don’t tell you that shopping for insurance this way is cold and impersonal.
  • They don’t tell you that they will give you the lowest rates, they tell you they’ll try.
  • They don’t tell you that the insurance companies they are quoting, pay to be on their sites.
  • They don’t tell you that not all the insurance companies are on their sites.
  • They don’t tell you that insurance agents are trying to rip you off, but they are implying it.
  • They don’t tell you that the only way an insurance agent gets paid is by selling you insurance.  That’s our job.
  • They don’t tell you that an insurance agent must be licensed in the State of Texas because selling insurance is regulated by the state.
  • They don’t tell you that insurance companies use local insurance agents to sell their policies.
  • They don’t tell you that insurance agents have no control over the prices because your price is based on multiple factors, like your zip code, your age, your driving record, type of car you drive, the type of insurance coverage you need and many other factors.
  • They don’t tell you what the coverages actually cover.
  • They don’t tell you their service will NOT protect you at the time of your loss.
  • They don’t tell you if you are a price shopper,  “you get what you pay for.”
  • The bottom line: Caveat Emptor-Buyer Beware!
